Project 365 - Day 11

Stumbling Through
I spent a bit of time at an old, long-abandoned factory recently, intending to capture some more small-town decay.  (Such will be a frequent subject here @ Of D&D as there are so many excellent examples of beauty in decay around these parts.)  I did get a LOT of really good shots, too: the triple-stacked elevator doors exposed to the elements; the now superfluous electrical connections; a small "wind shield" flap, ca. 1923; the rusticled water tower...you get the idea.  (I also "discovered" lens distortion, since whacking the 18-70mm lens to 18mm shows distinct curvature.)

But then...as I made my way through the undergrowth that is quickly turning into overgrowth...I saw this.  I liked it and thought you might, too.

  1. Tell me about this lens........it sounds similar to the distortion caused by the Nikon 18-135 @18mm

I like the sound of this place, looking forward to seeing more of it.

  2. It's the Nikon 18-70mm 3.5-4.5. I shot this particular pic in Aperture priority@ 31mm, f/6.3, ISO 100, and a SS of 1/400th.

The sweet spot of this particular lens starts around 20mm and above. I have shot quite a few landscapes with this lens @ 18mm and never noticed any distortion, but when shooting a 5 story building, it became apparent: the line of the corner on the right side of the frame was distinctly curved. This can be solved somewhat in Lightroom, of course, but I'm still learning to use that, too.
